Whats ranger's job in FoW
my ranger have been successful in the tombs and the old underworld. Last time i tried FoW with a pug we seem to fail miserably. On the first try our team was owned by the first shadow army group, on the second run with the same people we did only a little better, with like half of our team dying at every battle witch i got tired of and left during the third battle after seeing we had no hope.
Although on a run with my guild where 6 of us was helping someone to get FoW armor, we had a invici solo earth ele to kill most of the stuff, a monk for enchantments and spellbreaker. i was just bring EoE and symbiosis for some tough fights, and barrage/interrupt for support only. Since my guild isnt always going to FoW i need to get in a PuG, but i have no idea what a rangers job acually is, traps? interrupts? barrage? |

I myself use my R/Me as a degen/disrupter. Using poison, bleeding, and conjure phantasm works well during the first part, and the disrupts work well on the shadow monks. But the downside to this, is that after this first part, it fails when going against the undead skeletons, which obviously can't be poisoned/bled. So the best overall build for FoW would probably be spiker, or a well balanced trap build.

R/Mo. Smite with Judges Insight and barrage. Or have your smite monk keep JI on you. Favorable Winds helps a lot, just don't cast it near the first temple with the rangers Barraging your group. Hunters shot is nice for the Abysmals. Keeps them from chasing dwon your casters.

Theres plenty of spellcasters to rain interrupts on in FoW. Concussion shot is my new favorite vs the slower spells like Maelstrom and Firestorm which can occur often in fow.
I usually barrage/interupt/blind when im in FoW. |

Pin Down is the skill I think you are talking about. Hunter's Shot won't keep an Abysmal from chasing, it will cause excessive blood loss though. Regards |

When i go FoW with my guild/friends, i'll take my ranger just to interrupt the SS cast by the shadow beasts.
Interrupts tend to come in handy vs the shadow ele's, ice hands and a lot of others later on |

you could also use the Ranger Spike Build for R/E, Deal over 60hp points if set up correctly with plenty of interupts and Stances for protection, I usually run something like Conjure Flame, Kindle, Quickshot, Concussion (Lots of Spell Casters as said) and a few other interupts and back up things.

I run the following:
Dryders Defenses Barrage Tigers Fury Savage Shot Distracting Shot Judge's Insight Troll Ungent Rebirth On shadows I primarily spend time interrupting Monks, Beasts, and Eles, (heals, SS, and Firestorm mainly). When time comes around to Skeletals I throw up JI and do massive barrage damage, usually anywhere from 112 to 204 damage when JI is on. So in my opinion there is a place for rangers both as a damage dealer and as interrupter. It doesnt have to be one or the other. Also, most groups cringe if you go in with Throw Dirt. it really makes for a mess in my opinion, as do traps. For the most part, they both tend to send aggro in directions even worse than firestorm. However, some rangers have very good control of both traps and TD, so it just depends. Last edited by Loralai; Feb 16, 2006 at 04:58 PM // 16:58.. |

Here's the skills I center my Ranger's build around in FoW:
-Barrage {E} -Distracting Shot -Concussion Shot -Savage Shot -Favorable Winds(makes arrows travel faster for interrupting) There's 3 slots left, so fill them with what you feel would work, perhaps making use of your secondary profession. So give these a try, they work great! |
